Scholarship Opportunities in Korea for International Students?

I'm really interested in studying in Korea and was wondering about the scholarships available for international students. What are some of the best options, and what are the requirements to apply?

There are multiple scholarship options available for international students who want to study in Korea. I'll discuss three main ones below.

1. KGSP (Korean Government Scholarship Program): This is also known as the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS). It is the most prestigious and covers all expenses including tuition fees, accommodation, and even airfare. It is available for both undergraduate and graduate students worldwide who want to pursue a degree in Korea. To apply, you need to have a strong academic background (usually a GPA of 80% or above), and a recommendation from the Korean embassy or a designated domestic university is required.

2. University Scholarships: Many Korean universities offer their own scholarships to international students. For instance, Seoul National University, Korea University, and Yonsei University all offer scholarships based on academic merit and/or financial need. Keep in mind that these scholarships often cover only a portion of the tuition fees, and eligibility criteria vary. It's always best to check with the specific university for the most accurate information.

3. Private and Corporate Scholarships: Various organizations also offer scholarships to international students studying in Korea. For instance, the POSCO TJ Park Foundation Scholarship is for students studying abroad pursuing majors related to Asian studies, international relations, Korean studies, and other relevant fields.

As with any scholarship, make sure you thoroughly check all the requirements, deadlines, and application processes before applying. It's also helpful to understand that most scholarships require proficiency in Korean language, necessitating either a TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) or a KIIP (Korean Immigration and Integration Program) score. This requirement does vary based on the scholarship, so be sure to check each specific program's requirements.
