Which jobs have good opportunities fresh out of high school?

I'm starting to plan my career path and might not go to college right away. What job options do I have straight after high school that can offer good opportunities and growth?

While many jobs require a college degree, there are opportunities for work that pay well and offer room for advancement immediately after high school. Each of these options has their own unique benefits, responsibilities, and training requirements:

1. Trade Industry: Plumbers, electricians, welders, and carpenters are in high demand. Vocational training and apprenticeships are often required for these jobs, but they can pay very well and present opportunities for advancement.

2. Computer Technology: The tech industry offers a broad range of jobs that don't necessarily require a college degree. With some self-study and certification tests, positions like IT technician, network administrator, or even certain coding jobs are attainable.

3. Military Service: The armed forces offer a wide range of opportunities, from technical skills to leadership roles. In addition, military service can help pay for college later through the G.I. Bill.

4. Emergency Services: Police officers and firefighters often only require a high school diploma, along with specific training. The path to advancement here usually comes through gaining experience and additional training or certifications.

5. Sales Representative: While some companies may require a degree, many sales jobs only require excellent communication and persuasion skills. Experience can lead to higher-paying opportunities like regional sales manager or division lead.

6. Real Estate Agent: With some real estate classes, exams, and a license, you can start selling real estate. As you gain experience, the potential for higher income increases—especially if you start selling high-end properties.

Each of these paths requires its own unique set of skills and passions, but they're all viable options straight out of high school. Remember, there's no one right decision for everyone, so make sure to do research and understand what kind of work will suit you and your long-term career goals best.
