Is a high school ID valid for job applications?

I was curious if my high school ID could be used for identification when applying for jobs. Are there any additional documents I should definitely have on hand during the application process?

While a high school ID can be helpful for providing basic identification information, it is not typically accepted as a valid form of ID for job applications. Employers often need to verify both your identity and eligibility to work in the United States. They'll usually require government-issued identification, like a driver's license or passport, and documents that prove you're allowed to work, such as a Social Security card or birth certificate.

It’s practical to have multiple forms of identification and supporting documents to adequately fill out job applications. Some of the common ones include:

1. Driver's license or state ID card – These are the most commonly used forms of identification. They contain your photo, name, address, and date of birth.

2. Social Security card – This is used to verify your eligibility to work. Many employers, especially in the United States, will ask for your Social Security Number (SSN) during the application process.

3. Passport – A passport serves as identification and also verifies citizenship, which can be helpful if you’re applying for jobs that require you to travel.

4. Birth Certificate – You might not need to show this often, but it’s a good idea to know where it is in case an employer asks for it.

Remember that different jobs might require different documents, and some might even require additional forms of identification or eligibility. It's always best to check with the employer or the job listing for specific requirements.
