How hard is it to get into American University?

I'm considering applying to American University, and I'm trying to gauge how selective it is. Does anyone know what the acceptance rate is and how competitive the admission process tends to be?

American University is considered a selective institution, with an acceptance rate of approximately 41% as of the latest data. That means that about 41 students out of every 100 who apply are accepted.

However, an acceptance rate is just a starting point for understanding a college's selectivity. American University looks at a holistic view of your application, including your academic achievements, your letters of recommendation, your essays, and your extracurricular involvement.

Most admitted students have high school GPAs in the range of 3.59-4.14. Though American University is currently test-optional, SAT scores generally fall between 1320 and 1450, and ACT scores between 29 and 33. But remember, these are ranges and not strict cutoffs.

While stats like grades and test scores are important, don't forget about the importance of fit and expressing your genuine interest in your application. Writing strong essays that demonstrate why you're a great match for American's programs and values, along with showcasing your involvement and achievements outside of the classroom, can also help make you a competitive applicant.
