What scholarships does MIT offer for international undergraduate students?

Hi! I'm an international high schooler interested in applying to MIT for undergrad. I'm curious about the scholarships available for international students there. Any information would be super helpful!

MIT stands out in its commitment to meeting the full demonstrated financial need for all admitted students, both domestic and international. That means that the financial aid package will cover the full cost of attendance - tuition, fees, housing, meals, books and supplies, and personal expenses - beyond what you and your family are expected to contribute.

Financial aid at MIT is entirely need-based and is not merit-based, meaning there are no specific 'scholarships' to apply for. When determining your financial aid package, MIT takes into account your family's financial circumstances and calculates your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which is the amount that your family is expected to pay towards your education. The EFC is subtracted from MIT's cost of attendance to determine your demonstrated need.

Once your demonstrated need is determined, MIT will give you a financial aid package that covers this need. This package is typically a combination of a scholarship from MIT (which is similar to a grant, as it doesn't need to be repaid), a student employment offer (work-study), and perhaps a small student loan.

International applicants must apply for financial aid at the same time they apply for admission. This is because the admissions process for international students is need-aware, meaning your financial need is factored into the admissions decision.

So, while MIT doesn't exactly offer scholarships that you can apply for in the traditional sense, they do provide generous need-based financial aid packages that can make attending MIT a realistic option for students from all financial backgrounds, including international students.
