What aviation jobs can I get with just a high school diploma?

I'm really interested in pursuing a career in aviation but I'm not sure if college is the right path for me. Does anyone know of any aviation jobs that are available to individuals with only a high school diploma?

Certainly, there are several aviation jobs that you can get with just a high school diploma. However, most of these will require some additional training, certification, or work experience.

1. Flight Attendant: This role requires a high school diploma and the successful completion of an airline's training program. You'll need to develop excellent customer service skills to excel in this role, and you'd have the opportunity to travel frequently.

2. Aircraft Mechanic or Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT): While this role does require training and an FAA certification beyond a high school diploma, it doesn't necessarily require a college degree. Trade and technical schools offer suitable training programs.

3. Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Technician: This role involves maintenance and repair of the equipment used on the ground to support aircraft operation, like fuel trucks, belt loaders, and airport tugs. Training is usually done on the job.

4. Air Traffic Controller: This is a high-responsibility role managing the flow of aircraft in and out of airports. While some might pursue relevant college degrees, it isn't essential. More important is passing the FAA's Air Traffic Standardized Aptitude Test (AT-SAT) and completing the FAA's controller training program.

5. Aircraft Dispatcher: This role involves scheduling and dispatching flights, routing aircraft, and other detailed planning tasks to ensure smooth operations. It does require passing FAA written and practical exams.

Remember, in aviation, safety is paramount, so proper training and certification for your chosen career path are crucial, even for career options that do not require a college degree.
