High-paying jobs you can get with just a high school diploma?

Are there any jobs that pay really well and only require a high school diploma? I'm considering entering the workforce immediately after graduation and would like to know my options for good salaries. Any tips or experiences you can share?

Sure, there are definitely high-paying jobs that only require a high school diploma, although many of them do require additional training, certification, real-world experience or some combination of these.

One possible avenue is working in the skilled trades, such as an electrician or plumber. These jobs often require an apprenticeship or attending a vocational school, but do not require a college degree. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, electricians earn a median pay of around $61,590 per year, and plumbers earn approximately $61,550 annually.

Another option is being a commercial pilot. Commercial pilots, who often fly charter flights or work for regional airlines, require a high school diploma and a pilot's license from the Federal Aviation Administration. The median annual wage for commercial pilots was about $171,210 in 2023, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The transportation industry also offers high-paying opportunities, such as subway and streetcar operators, or locomotive engineers and operators—some of which make a median wage in the upper $70K and $80K range.

Do keep in mind that while these positions may not require a college degree, they often involve significant on-the-job training, internships, or apprenticeships. Additionally, they also require a strong set of soft skills like communication, problem-solving, and time-management.

Also, be aware that many of these jobs can be physically demanding and may involve irregular hours. But if you're motivated, fine with these requirements and interested in these fields, they can be a good fit! It's worth doing a bit more research into the specifics of any job you're considering, so you have a clear understanding of what might be required.
