What are some of the best high school degree jobs available?

I'm trying to find out what jobs are available that only require a high school degree. Are there careers that are considered good with just this level of education?

Absolutely! Even without a college degree, there are several rewarding careers you can pursue using just your high school diploma. Here are a few that are often regarded as some of the best occupations for only high-school graduates:

1. Electrician: Electricians install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in residences, businesses, and factories. Some electricians may choose to specialize in areas such as residential or commercial installation or repair. Many states require you to complete an apprenticeship before getting licensed.

2. Plumber: Plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters install and repair piping fixtures and systems. Similar to electricians, these occupations usually need an apprenticeship before licensure.

3. Aircraft Mechanic: This profession involves performing maintenance and repairs on aircraft to ensure they meet aviation standards. Some mechanics hold an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate, which requires attending an FAA-approved aviation maintenance technician school or gaining practical experience.

4. Real Estate Agent: With a high school degree and a state-issued license, you can facilitate property sales as a real estate agent. This job sometimes requires taking real estate education courses and passing a licensing exam.

5. Police Officer: Law enforcement is another career option, which typically requires a high school diploma in addition to graduation from the agency's training academy. Some police departments, however, require college courses or a full degree.

6. Executive Assistant: Serving as an executive assistant usually involves administrative tasks, such as organizing schedules or managing communication for upper-level managers, and requires problem-solving skills and organization.

7. Postal Service Mail Carriers: Delivering mail to homes and businesses in a specified route often only requires a minimum of high school education, along with passing a civil service exam and having a clean driving record.

8. Commercial Driver: Transporting goods typically requires only a high school degree and a commercial driver's license. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration mandates that drivers must be at least 21 to drive across state lines or transport hazardous materials.

Each of these roles involves varying amounts of on-the-job training or, at the very least, hands-on experience. If you're hoping to bypass college for now but still want to maintain the possibility of higher education in the future, these career options could provide that flexibility.
