Can I work an Army job while still attending high school?

I'm interested in joining the Army as soon as possible. Are there any Army jobs or programs that allow me to start working while I’m still in high school, like through a reserves program or something similar?

The U.S. Army offers several opportunities that you can take advantage of while still in high school, although actually going through the enlistment process and training usually starts post-graduation.

You can, however, join the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) if your school offers it. The JROTC program allows you to get a feel for military structure and lifestyle while still in high school through educational and extracurricular activities. Do note that participating in JROTC does not obligate you to join the military after high school.

Another path of interest might be the Army's Future Soldiers program, which is available to all high school seniors who've enlisted during their senior year. The Future Soldiers program provides learning materials and activities to help prepare you for Basic Combat Training.

You can also look into the Army's Split Training Option, which is designed specifically for individuals still in high school or attending college. With this option, you attend Basic Training during the summer after your junior year of high school and then return home to finish your schooling. After graduation, you would then attend Advanced Individual Training.

Remember, these programs are designed to provide you with experience and exposure to the Army lifestyle and culture. They can certainly provide you with useful skills and enrichment, but they are not paying jobs.

Consult with your school counselor and local Army recruiters to explore these options further and decide what fits your career goals and circumstances best. They can provide more in-depth guidance and information to help you make an informed decision.
