Can a West Point cadet switch branches and graduate as a Marine?

I'm considering applying to West Point, but I'm also really interested in the Marines as a career. Does anyone know if it’s possible to graduate from West Point and then join the Marine Corps instead of the Army? Just curious about my options.

While West Point is principally an Army academy, there is a very limited and competitive option for cadets to commission into selected other branches of service upon graduation. This includes the Marine Corps. However, few cadets make this switch each year and there is no guarantee—the decision is typically contingent on factors such as the needs of the military at that particular time.

So while it is technically possible, it’s not a widely available option and shouldn't be your primary plan if you're definitely set on joining the Marine Corps. If your aim is the Marine Corps, you might also consider applying to the U.S. Naval Academy, as the majority of their graduates commission into the Navy or Marine Corps. That would give you a more straightforward path to your desired branch.
