Exploring environmental engineering schools

I'm passionate about environmental issues and want to study environmental engineering. Does anyone have recommendations for schools that are particularly strong in this field? I'm open to any location.

There are several universities well-known for their strong programs in environmental engineering. Here are a few options to consider:

1. Stanford University: One of the leaders in the world of environmental engineering, Stanford offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in the field. The curriculum focuses on water quality, ecology, sustainability, air pollution, and groundwater contamination. Stanford also provides opportunities to be involved in research projects and apply what you’ve learned in real-world settings.

2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): Known as a powerhouse for engineering and technology, MIT offers a program in Environmental Engineering Sciences. Lots of hands-on experience, top-notch faculty, innovative research opportunities, and collaborative learning are some of the reasons students choose MIT.

3. University of California—Berkeley: UC Berkeley's environmental engineering department emphasizes interdisciplinary learning. Its program equips students with a strong foundation in chemistry, mathematics, biology, and engineering principles. Focus areas include water quality engineering, air quality engineering, and environmental fluid mechanics.

4. University of Michigan—Ann Arbor: The university is known for a broad-based environmental engineering program. The curriculum at UM-Ann Arbor offers a multidisciplinary approach emphasizing engineering strategies, environmental microbiology, public health protection, air pollution, and water resources.

5. CalTech: The unique aspect of CalTech’s environmental engineering program is its focus on the chemical, physical, and biological processes in the environment and their interactions. It offers a wide array of research opportunities considering the global scale of environmental issues.

These programs are selective so I'd recommend taking a close look at each school’s admission requirements to ensure that you're a viable candidate. Additionally, make sure to explore their curriculum, faculty profiles, research opportunities, and post-graduate outcomes to see which program aligns with your career goals.
