Hey guys, I've recently heard about the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). How hard is it to get into, and is it worth joining?
Hello! The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) is an organization that recognizes academic achievements of high school students. Unlike other honor societies, like the National Honor Society, admission isn't as rigorous or selective. Applicants typically need a GPA of 3.5 or higher, currently enrolled in high school, and must demonstrate a commitment to community service and/or leadership. Once a student meets these criteria, they're usually invited to join.
Regarding whether it's worth joining, the NSHSS has partnerships with colleges and offers many member benefits such as scholarships, networking opportunities, and internships. However, it's important to weigh the benefits against the membership fees; also note that you can get many of those resources for free. Also bear in mind that college admissions officers do not weigh NSHSS membership as heavily as other more competitive honor societies.
It's always a good idea to research different extracurricular activities and honor societies to find the best fit for you.
