What is the campus culture like at University of Colorado Springs?

I'm considering applying to the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs and would love to know more about what campus life is like there. How is the student community and what kind of extracurriculars are popular?

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) boasts a vibrant and engaging campus culture. Encompassed by the beautiful scenery of Pikes Peak and the surrounding city, students on campus have an exceptional environment for both their academics and personal growth.

Starting with the student community, it's quite diverse and offers an inclusive atmosphere, which is made easy since UCCS is home to students from a variety of walks of life. Many clubs, organizations, and activities cater to a multitude of interests. With over 100 student clubs and organizations, you're bound to find a community that fits your interests. Clubs range from academic and professional, such as the Accounting Club and Pre-Med Club to pure interests like the Cooking Club or Outdoor Adventure Club.

UCCS is also known for its dedication to service and community engagement. Opportunities for service learning and volunteering are numerous and encouraged for students to partake in. Moreover, Greek life isn't as prominent here as it might be on other campuses, but it does represent an active minority of the student body.

Sports-wise, UCCS has solid NCAA Division II athletic teams, but it is not hugely sports-oriented in terms of student life. That said, intramural and club sports are popular on campus and offer a fun way for students to stay active.

If outdoor activities are your taste, living in Colorado Springs offers an abundance of opportunities for hiking, skiing, and other outdoor adventure sports due to its proximity to nature reserves and parks. This can provide a great balance to your academic life and opens up a unique facet of campus culture that not all universities have.

Remember, getting a feel for a campus’s culture is best done in person, so if you can, visiting the campus or talking with current students or alumni can give you deeper insights. You can register for a virtual or in-person tour on the website, here: https://gomountainlions.com/.
