What are good colleges for neurology?

I'm really interested in studying neurology, but I'm not sure which colleges are best for this field. Does anyone have recommendations for universities with strong neurology programs? Any advice on what to look for would be awesome!

Absolutely, there are several universities known for strong neuroscience programs which will set you up for a great start in neurology.

Johns Hopkins University has one of the top neuroscience programs in the country. The undergraduate program offers plenty of research and lab opportunities, and the medical school is well-renowned for neurology.

University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) is another place where you can get a fantastic grounding in neuroscience. Their Biological Basis of Behavior program is Neurological focused, and a top choice for aspiring neurologists.

MIT also has an exceptional neuroscience program known for its research and high-quality faculty. They offer an undergraduate major in Brain and Cognitive Sciences (BCS), which focuses on understanding the most complex living structure in the known universe: the human brain.

Keep in mind that, although certain universities might be well-known for their strength in neuroscience, what's most important is finding a program with aspects that fit you. You may want to consider factors like research opportunities, class size, internships, faculty access, lab equipment, and the flexibility of the curriculum when looking at programs. For instance, some students prosper with a lot of independent laboratory work, others with more structured classes, and still others with opportunities for fieldwork in the community. Make sure to reflect on these elements when you are researching and visiting schools.

Also, don't forget to check out the specific classes offered in each program to ensure they align with your interests within the field of neurology, as some programs may focus more on cognitive neuroscience, behavioral neuroscience, etc. A great way to do this is to look at the department websites, which often have course catalogs and descriptions, in addition to information about the faculty and their research. Ensuring a good match between your interests and the program's focus and strengths will set you up for a successful undergraduate journey in neurology.

Good luck with your college search!
