What exactly is Brooklyn College CUNY like?

I'm from out of state and I've heard a bit about Brooklyn College. Can anyone share what it's like in terms of the academic environment and student life at the City University of New York?

Brooklyn College is part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system and is often considered one of the more prestigious CUNY schools. Known for its rigorous academics, it offers a wide variety of programs across different disciplines. You can truly tailor your education to your interests.

Academically, the school has a liberal arts curriculum, so regardless of your major, you will be expected to take a variety of courses in different subjects. This can provide a well-rounded education. The faculty tends to be quite dedicated, and due to the school's public nature, the tuition is relatively affordable, especially for in-state students.

In terms of student life, Brooklyn College is a predominantly commuter school, so the campus may not have the traditional college vibe that residential campuses might offer. This does not mean, however, that there aren't opportunities to engage with the college community. There are a variety of clubs and organizations that students can join to meet like-minded individuals and become more integrated into the college community.

Culturally, the school is very diverse which is a bonus to many students. You can be exposed to a wide variety of perspectives and backgrounds. Plus, being located in Brooklyn, you'll have access to all that New York City has to offer – food, culture, entertainment, internships, and much more.

Regarding facilities, the library and other campus buildings are fairly well maintained. The school recently completed updates to the library, which was a huge improvement for students.

Overall, Brooklyn College could be a great choice if you value academic rigor, diversity, and urban life, and don't mind the commuter campus. It’s always helpful to visit the campus or connect with current students to get a more personable feel of the college. It's worth noting that everyone's experience will be different, but hopefully, this gives you a general idea of what to expect!
