LSU Ourso College of Business - How Competitive Is It?

I'm considering majoring in business and heard good things about LSU's Ourso College of Business. Does anyone know how competitive it is to get in and what opportunities are available for internships or networking?

Hello! You've certainly got an eye out for great programs as LSU's E. J. Ourso College of Business is reputable in the field.

In terms of competitiveness, like many colleges, LSU doesn't provide acceptance rates for individual colleges within the university. However, the university as a whole has a relatively high acceptance rate of around 74%. As a prerequisite, the College of Business does require that you maintain a certain GPA in your business pre-requisite courses to officially declare your major in one of their business programs. Maintaining strong grades will certainly aid in securing your place in the Ourso College of Business.

When it comes to opportunities for internships and networking, rest assured that the Ourso College of Business has an extensive range of resources. The Business Career Services office within the college specifically caters to business students and provides career counseling, internship and job search assistance, as well as organizing career expos each semester. These events bring in recruiters from local, state, and national companies, offering you opportunities to network and potentially secure internships or even future job offers.

Furthermore, there are multiple business-related student organizations you can join to connect with like-minded peers and professionals in the field. Examples include Beta Alpha Psi (an honors organization for financial information students and professionals), Alpha Kappa Psi (a professional business fraternity), and the Financial Management Association.

Remember to make the most of these resources and actively seek out these opportunities. The more engagement, the more possibilities for career development. Good luck with your decision!
