What is the Michigan Engineering ranking?

I'm thinking about applying to the University of Michigan for an engineering major. How is their engineering program ranked compared to other top schools?

The University of Michigan's College of Engineering is indeed highly ranked, and it's known for its robust research opportunities and notable faculty. As of 2025, it's ranked #9 by U.S. News for undergraduate engineering programs among schools whose highest degree is a doctorate. This puts it just behind institutions like MIT, Stanford, and Berkeley, but ahead of other notable programs.

Aside from the overall ranking, keep in mind their individual engineering programs may vary. For instance, their Industrial/Manufacturing/Systems Engineering is ranked #2, and their Mechanical Engineering is ranked #4, just to name a few.

Remember, rankings can certainly inform your decision, but you should also consider other factors like your specific interest within engineering, the size of the faculty and departments, research opportunities, the school's location, concentration offerings, etc. Be sure to delve deeper into what Michigan's College of Engineering can offer you!
