What's the oldest university in the U.S.?

I'm doing some research for a school project about the history of higher education. Does anyone know which the oldest university in the United States is? Any interesting facts about its history would be helpful!

The oldest institution of higher education in the United States is Harvard University, which was established in 1636. Harvard is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is recognized around the world for its rich history, prestigious academic standards, and illustrious list of alumni.

A few interesting points about its history: Harvard was founded by the colonial Massachusetts legislature only sixteen years after the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth, making it deeply tied to early American history. The university's original purpose was to educate clergy, but it rapidly expanded its curriculum to include a wide range of subjects.

One often overlooked fact is that Harvard didn't originally have a separate campus; its first classes were held at a private home! It wasn't until three years later, in 1639, that a benefactor named John Harvard left his library and half his estate to the university, allowing it to build its first instructional buildings and hence, it was named after him.

Furthermore, eight of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were Harvard graduates. Throughout its duration, Harvard University has established a legacy of academic excellence and has continuously been a key influencer in shaping higher education throughout the United States and abroad.
