What's Greek Life Like at University of Oklahoma?

I'm considering the University of Oklahoma and I'm interested in Greek life. Can anyone share what the Greek life scene is like there? How active is it, and what kind of events do they usually have?

Greek life at the University of Oklahoma (OU) is known to be quite active, with about a quarter of the student body involved in fraternities or sororities. These organizations often organize a variety of events for their members and the wider community, ranging from philanthropic activities, community service, and leadership training, to social events.

The school has a significant number of fraternity and sorority chapters, offering wide-ranging opportunities for you to find a group that aligns with your personal interests and values. The Greek organizations fall under different councils such as the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the Panhellenic Association, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the Multicultural Greek Council.

Philanthropy and community outreach are major focuses across all the councils. Many chapters host charity events and encourage members to volunteer in the local community. You might find yourself participating in fundraisers, food drives, tutoring programs, or local clean-up activities.

As for the social aspect, Greek life at OU generally has a strong presence in campus social life. There are often various events like formals, mixers with other Greek organizations, game nights, intramural sports, and more. These activities aim to foster bonds among members and create a sense of brotherhood or sisterhood among them.

That being said, joining Greek life is a considerable commitment - in terms of time, responsibilities, and also financial aspects. I would suggest doing some more in-depth research on the chapters you're interested in, possibly reaching out to current members of the Greek Life office for more information, and exploring beyond just the social aspects to ensure it aligns with your university goals and expectations.
