Is NHS (National Honor Society) a scam?

I've seen a few people questioning the legitimacy of the National Honor Society. Can anyone here provide some insight? Is it worth joining or is it just a waste of time and money?

Although some people might argue that the National Honor Society (NHS) is a waste of time, it does have its benefits if you actively participate and take advantage of the opportunities it provides. NHS is a respected organization, which recognizes high-achieving students and promotes leadership, scholarship, community service, and character.

As for the cost, there might be a membership fee, but it is not exorbitant and the money goes towards supporting the organization and its activities. If financial concerns are an issue, do reach out to your local chapter as they might provide assistance in such cases.

Being a part of NHS can be a valuable addition to your college application, though it won't be a deciding factor in admissions. It's important to remember that it won't get you into college on its own; how you engage with NHS and participate in various activities will matter more and demonstrate your commitment. It's up to you to decide whether to join and make the most of it.
