I'm looking into smaller colleges and came across Saint Joseph's College in Maine. What should I know about it? How's the student life and academic environment there?

Saint Joseph's College of Maine is a private, Catholic liberal arts college located in Standish, Maine, approximately 18 miles from Portland. It's recognized for its beautiful lakeside campus and close-knit community atmosphere. The student population is rather small with around 2 to 3 thousand students, which fosters a personalized education experience and an intimate campus culture.

Academically, the college is known for its Nursing and Science programs but offers a wide array of undergraduate and graduate programs. Its adherence to the liberal arts tradition means that students are encouraged to explore a variety of disciplines to develop a well-rounded foundation of knowledge. Furthermore, Saint Joseph's College places a significant emphasis on ethical and religious values, integrating these principles throughout their curriculum.

Student life on campus is active, despite its small size. With more than 40 student-led clubs and organizations, including service-oriented clubs, academic honor societies, and creative arts groups, there are opportunities for everyone to find their niche.

Athletics play a big role in the campus community as well. The college competes in Division III sports with a variety of options from baseball to volleyball.

As for residence life, about two-thirds of the students live on campus in one of the 7 residence halls. Close proximity to Sebago Lake offers a unique opportunity for various outdoor activities like swimming and kayaking, or even outdoor study sessions.

Also noteworthy is the college's sustainability focus. The school's commitment to environmental stewardship is evident in their initiatives like organic farming projects, green building designs, and a comprehensive recycling program.

Remember, visiting a college (either physically or virtually) can provide a more in-depth perspective on whether your preferences align with what the college offers. Getting in touch with the admissions offices or current students may provide more insights too.
