What are the major colleges and universities in Philadelphia?

I'm looking at colleges in Philadelphia and trying to get a list together of the main ones. Are there standout schools in Philly I should consider, especially with strong programs in engineering or business?

Philadelphia is indeed home to several prominent higher education institutions, each with its unique offerings in engineering and business. I'll focus on the most notable ones in the area:

1. University of Pennsylvania (Penn): Penn is located in West Philadelphia and is a member of the Ivy League. Its Wharton School has top-notch undergraduate and graduate business programs. Penn Engineering also offers excellent programs, like Mechanical Engineering Applied Mechanics, and Computer and Information Science.

2. Drexel University: Located in University City, Drexel offers a variety of rigorous engineering and business programs. Notably, Drexel has a focus on cooperative education, where students gain up to 18 months of professional work experience while studying.

3. Temple University: Situated in North Philadelphia, Temple's Fox School of Business has top-ranked undergraduate, MBA, and doctoral programs. College of Engineering admits roughly one thousand students every year and offers B.S., M.S., and doctoral degrees in traditional engineering disciplines.

4. Villanova University: Villanova isn’t technically within the Philadelphia city limits (it’s in the nearby suburb of Radnor), but it’s often associated with the city due to its proximity. The university's School of Business and College of Engineering are nationally recognized.

5. Saint Joseph's University (SJU): SJU's Haub School of Business is respected and AACSB-accredited. SJU, located on the city's western border, is predominantly known for its business and marketing programs.

6. La Salle University: In Northwest Philadelphia, La Salle's School of Business is AACSB-accredited, and it offers an MBA with multiple concentrations.

These are just a few of the significant universities in Philadelphia with widely recognized business and engineering programs. I would recommend considering your own academic and personal needs, as well as visiting campuses (either virtually or in person) to get a feel for the school's environment when making your decision.
