Best Private Schools on Oahu

I'm currently exploring private schools on Oahu and would love some insights. What are the top private schools in Oahu, and what do they offer in terms of academics and extracurriculars?

There are several highly regarded private schools on Oahu that provide excellent academic and extracurricular opportunities.

Punahou School, for example, is a well-respected co-educational institution grades K-12. Academically, they offer a rigorous college prep curriculum, and they also offer many AP classes for students interested in pushing themselves further. Extracurricularly, they have many clubs, sports teams, and a concerted emphasis on community service.

Iolani School is another top private school. It, too, offers an intensive college prep program and has a special emphasis on STEM education, with state-of-the-art labs and resources for students, along with other subject areas. They are also especially active in extracurricular activities, with arts (performing and visual), athletics, and clubs being a prominent part of the school community.

Kamehameha Schools, specifically catered for students of Native Hawaiian ancestry, is one of the most unique private school experiences in Oahu. They strive to combine a vigorous academic curriculum with a culturally-rooted Hawaiian education. They also provide a robust range of extracurriculars, remaining particularly known for their performing arts and athletic programs.

Mid-Pacific Institute offers a blend of traditional curriculum with innovative programs such as the Mid-Pacific Exploratory (MPX). MPX provides project-based, integrated learning opportunities where students apply skills across subject areas. The school has strong arts programs, with specialized facilities for visual and performing arts, and a variety of sports offered.

Before enrolling, it may be helpful to visit each campus and speak with faculty and students if possible to get a more in-depth understanding of the unique culture and curriculum at each school. They all offer strong academic programs, so it will be important to consider which type of environment suits your child's learning style and interests best.
