NASA high school internship acceptance rate?

Hello! I'm really interested in applying for a NASA high school internship, and I was curious about the acceptance rate. Do any of you know how competitive it is, or have any tips on how to make my application stand out? Thanks!

Hello! While NASA doesn't publish their official acceptance rate for high school internships, it's safe to assume that the program is competitive due to the prestigious nature of the organization and its international reputation. That being said, here are some tips to help you make your application more compelling:

1. Tailor your application to the specific internship: Make sure you understand the requirements of the particular NASA internship you're applying for and demonstrate how your skills and experiences align with what they're looking for. Research the department or project you're interested in and highlight any relevant coursework, projects, or extracurricular activities that show your enthusiasm for the field.

2. Showcase your STEM background: As a scientific organization, NASA values students with strong STEM backgrounds. Highlight any advanced courses, clubs, competitions, or research experiences you've participated in that showcase your interest and abilities in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.

3. Emphasize teamwork and communication skills: NASA places a high value on collaboration and effective communication. Provide examples of your teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills, either through academic or extracurricular experiences.

4. Show them your "spike": As with any competitive application, showing a highly-developed specialty, or "spike" in an area that especially interests you, may help you stand out. Focus on one or two areas where you really excel and elaborate on your accomplishments in those fields, rather than trying to cram in a list of everything you've ever done.

5. Demonstrate your passion: Express your passion for space and your motivation for wanting to intern at NASA. Be genuine and provide specific reasons why you're drawn to their organization and how this internship aligns with your personal and academic goals.

6. Get strong recommendation letters: A strong letter of recommendation from a teacher or mentor who can attest to your abilities in STEM fields, and/or to your leadership and teamwork skills can definitely enhance your application, as NASA will then have a more objective voice verifying what you yourself have told them.

To sum it up, focus on showcasing your STEM background, tailoring your application to the specific internship, conveying your passion for space, and demonstrating your teamwork and communication skills. Best of luck with your application!
