What's it like studying in sunny Buffalo?

I'm interested in colleges up north, and someone mentioned a college in "sunny Buffalo." Is that a real suggestion or were they joking? What's the student vibe like at schools around Buffalo?

When someone refers to Buffalo as "sunny," it could be a tongue-in-cheek remark, referring to the colder, overcast weather and sometimes heavy snowfall typical of this northern region. Buffalo, New York, is located near the Canadian border and is known for its winters, which can start early and end late.

That said, the colleges in Buffalo offer a plethora of academic opportunities and extracurricular life. The two largest institutions are the University at Buffalo and Buffalo State College, both a part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system.

The University at Buffalo (UB) is the largest and most comprehensive university in the SUNY system, with a very diverse student population and a wide range of majors. It has strong programs in engineering, business, and health sciences. The student vibe at UB is pretty active, with a range of clubs, Greek life, and intramural sports, as well as DI athletics.

Buffalo State is less research-focused than UB but offers a variety of programs in education, arts, and sciences. Campus life offers over 70 student clubs, an active Greek life, and lively arts and music scenes.

So while Buffalo might not be "sunny" in terms of year-round weather, many students find the sense of community, diversity of academic programs and extracurricular activities "sunny" or bright in their own way. Of course, you'll also get to enjoy the unique beauty that each season brings!
