What are some of the best colleges for animation majors?

I'm passionate about animation and looking to apply to colleges known for their animation programs. Does anyone have recommendations for schools with strong animation departments or standout alumni in the field? Any pros and cons would be helpful!

One of the top destinations for animation majors is the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). It has a renowned animation program, founded by Walt Disney himself, and many of its alumni have gone on to lead successful careers at Disney, Pixar, and other influential animation studios. The curriculum at CalArts is comprehensive, allowing students to explore both traditional and digital animation techniques, as well as character design, storyboarding, and more.

Another excellent choice is the University of Southern California (USC). Their animation program is part of the School of Cinematic Arts, which means students have access to an array of resources and can also develop a deeper understanding of the film industry. They boast a robust alumni network that includes creators of successful animated features and TV shows.

Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) also has a highly rated animation program. It's especially well-regarded for its emphasis on artistic development, encouraging students to explore their unique creative vision alongside technical expertise.

For a more comprehensive film school experience, you might consider the Film and Animation program at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
