Insights on Hobart and William Smith Colleges?

Does anyone have experience or knowledge about Hobart and William Smith Colleges? I'm curious about their campus culture and academic strengths. Any tips on whether it's worth applying to?

Hobart and William Smith Colleges (HWS) are actually two closely tied liberal arts colleges located in the scenic Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. The twin colleges have a coordinated curriculum, and students earn their degrees from both colleges.

Academically, HWS boast several strong programs. They shine particularly in the areas of political science, as well as environmental studies drawing from the surrounding Finger Lakes environment. Their study abroad programs are also very highly regarded with a vast array of options ranging from business in Hong Kong to marine biology in the Galápagos. The Colleges are also part of a handful of liberal arts institutions with a unique commitment to facilitating internships and other real-life experience for all students, through the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education.

As for the campus culture, HWS fosters a close-knit and active community. Athletics are a big part of life at HWS, with over one-third of students participating in the Colleges' 23 varsity sports. Fraternity and sorority life is quite present, but not overwhelmingly so. Sustainability is another pillar of HWS's campus culture, with various initiatives and clubs dedicated to promoting a greener world.

In terms of whether HWS is worth applying to, that largely depends on what you're looking for in a college. If you're interested in a small, tight-knit community with strong academics and a focus on real-world experiences, it's an excellent choice. As with any college decision, however, I would highly recommend visiting (physically, if you can, or virtually if you can't). You'll get a feel for the community and atmosphere which can heavily impact your overall college experience.

Remember, it's important that a college align with your interests, career goals, and values. If HWS seems to meet those criteria, I would certainly suggest considering it as an option!
