I'm super interested in applying to Georgetown University but I'm not entirely sure about their enrollment process. Does anyone know what steps I should be following? Also, any tips for making my application stand out would be awesome!
For Georgetown University, the first step in the enrollment process is to complete and submit their application. Georgetown utilizes their own application, available on their website -- they do not accept the Common App.
The application has several main components:
1. A completed Georgetown Application Form.
2. A Secondary School Report - which includes your high school transcript and counselor's recommendation.
3. Teacher's Recommendation - from a teacher of a full-year course during your junior or senior year.
4. SAT or ACT test scores - all scores should be sent directly from the testing agency. The latest accepted test administration dates for Early Action applicants is October (SAT) or September (ACT).
Applicants are also required to write two essays. The first is the personal statement, which should reveal your inner life and character. This essay should tell the Admissions Committee something about you that cannot be found elsewhere on your application and should be particularly illuminating about what you will contribute to our community. The second essay will be specific to the undergraduate school that the student is applying to (Georgetown College, the School of Nursing and Health Studies, Walsh School of Foreign Service, or McDonough School of Business). This essay prompt asks students to articulate why they’re interested in their chosen school, and what they hope to get out of the program.
Georgetown also has their own interview process. Highly recommended though not required, interviews are conducted by Georgetown alumni in or near your hometown or school. An alumni interview is an admission conversation and is not considered an official admission interview.
Application deadlines at Georgetown are November 1 for Early Action and January 10 for Regular Decision.
Now, to stand out in your application, Georgetown appreciates students who are dedicated, ambitious and involved. For your essay, choose topics that are honest and that are meaningful to you. Use the essays as a platform to articulate your point of view and to share the values and characteristics that will distinguish you in a pool of applicants. Also, Georgetown values a heavy course load and expect to see students taking on AP or IB courses. Focus on your strengths, show deep engagement with your studies and activities, display leadership, and illustrate a commitment to the broader community. The school particularly values students with a strong commitment to community service and global stewardship, so be sure to emphasize those in your application if they apply to you.
