Charleston, South Carolina is home to a number of colleges and universities, each offering unique academics and student experiences.

The College of Charleston (CofC) is perhaps the most recognizable of these institutions, located right in the heart of downtown Charleston. Established in 1770, it's one of the oldest universities in the United States. The college is primarily a liberal arts institution and is known for programs in Business, Biology, Communications, History, and Political Science. It has a beautiful historic campus and offers a very vibrant student lifestyle, given its setting in the heart of Charleston.

Another higher education institution in the area is The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. This school is one of the few senior military colleges in the United States. It offers a traditional military education, with programs strong in Engineering, Criminal Justice, and Business Administration. It can provide a very structured and disciplined educational experience, setting it apart from the majority of colleges.

There's also Charleston Southern University (CSU), a Christian liberal arts university located in North Charleston. CSU has a diverse range of study options, but it's known for its programs in Nursing, Business, and Education. As a Christian school, there is a strong focus on faith and community service in the educational experience.

Lastly, there's the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), located in downtown Charleston. As the name suggests, MUSC is a health sciences-centered institution, with strong programs in areas like Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing. It's the state's only comprehensive academic health science center and is well renowned for its rigorous academics and superb faculty.
