Choosing a Community College in Sacramento

Sacramento has a few community colleges, but I'm not sure which one to go for. Has anyone attended, or know someone who has, one of the community colleges there? How are the academics and extracurriculars?

There are indeed several community colleges in the Sacramento area. Let's talk about a couple of them.

1. Sacramento City College (SCC): SCC is a part of the Los Rios Community College District and offers a wide variety of academic programs. It has partnerships with four-year universities that can simplify the transfer process if you're planning on pursuing a bachelor's degree. SCC also houses well-regarded vocational programs such as those in nursing and automotive technology. The extracurricular scene reflects the diverse student body, with several clubs and organizations.

2. American River College (ARC): As another part of the Los Rios CCD, ARC also offers a broad range of academic programs with the ability to transfer credits to four-year universities. ARC is particularly known for its strong Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) departments. Furthermore, ARC offers an Honors Program, which can bolster your application when applying to transfer to four-year schools. In terms of extracurriculars, ARC also has an active student body, with numerous clubs, organizations, and sports teams.
