What's campus life like at Brown University?

I'm curious about what it's like to live and study at Brown University. How's the social scene, and are there a lot of clubs and activities to get involved in? Any insights from current students would be great!

Brown University, located in Providence, Rhodei Island, is known for its vibrant social scene and an abundance of clubs and organizations to join. Most students live on campus for all four years, which greatly enhances the sense of community.

The characteristic you'll perhaps hear most often about Brown is the open curriculum, which fosters an atmosphere of intellectual curiosity. You'll find students challenging each other in energetic debates but also working collaboratively on shared interests.

Being part of the Ivy League, Brown’s academic rigor often translates itself into the social scene. Many students form study groups, or simply gather for coffee and intellectual discussions. Brown’s social scene is commonly described as cooperative and friendly. The student body itself is incredibly diverse, and you'll find communities built around all sorts of interests.

When it comes to extracurriculars, Brown has over 400 student-run clubs in a variety of areas including arts, culture, academics, activism, athletics, and more. These organizations often host events that appeal to the wider student body, such as the Hack@Brown and A Better World by Design conferences. In terms of Greek life, it is present but not a dominant force on campus.

Brown also strives to foster a sense of wellness and balance in its students. The Brown Center for Students of Color, LGBTQ Center, Women’s Center and other supportive services are available to students to promote an environment of inclusivity and wellbeing.

Providence itself is a small but culturally rich city filled with restaurants, museums, and art galleries. The city is compact enough to be navigable by bike or even on foot. Providence is particularly known for its food scene, which spans a wide range of cuisines.

One tradition is the WaterFire event where bonfires are lit on the city's rivers accompanied by music, which provides a great chance to explore Providence’s downtown while participating in a unique local tradition.

As per individual experiences, it's worth reaching out to some current students or alumni through LinkedIn or another networking method. They can provide you with a more personal perspective.
