Admissions at Humboldt State University

I'm considering Humboldt State University, but I'm not sure what their admissions process is like. What are the important factors they consider, and are there specific requirements I should be aware of to boost my application?

Humboldt State University is one of the Cal State Universities and thus, adopts a straightforward eligibility index for admission. The eligibility index is a combination of your GPA from your high school and SAT/ACT scores (if submitted), although beginning with the 2022-2023 admissions cycle, Humboldt State University has adopted a test-blind policy, meaning that SAT/ACT scores aren't considered as part of the admissions process.

For California residents, you generally need to have at least a 2.5 GPA if you're a California resident or a 3.0 GPA for non-California residents to be eligible for Humboldt State University. However, competitive applicants may have higher GPAs.

In terms of high school coursework, applicants should have completed specific college preparatory courses, also known as 'a-g' courses in California. This includes courses in history, English, mathematics, science, language other than English, visual and performing arts, and a college preparatory elective.

As for extracurricular activities, they are not required for admission to Humboldt State University or other Cal State schools. However, if you have worked, participated in extracurricular activities or community service, those accomplishments could make your application more competitive.

Your personal statement, if required, is an opportunity to share your individual experiences and goals. This component can demonstrate your fit for the school's community and ethos.

Remember that deadlines are crucial in the Cal State application process. The priority application filing period for Cal State Universities, including Humboldt, is from October 1 to November 30. Be sure to meet these deadlines to ensure priority consideration of your application.

To establish a solid application, do your best to maintain a strong academic record in challenging coursework, focus on involvement in some extracurricular activities that interest you, and be prepared to share your unique story in your application. Though it's a straightforward process, admissions at each university still can be competitive, and it's important to put your best foot forward. Good luck!
