Community Colleges in Bakersfield: Where to Start?

What are the community colleges like in Bakersfield? I'm weighing my options and would love to hear about the student-teacher ratio and the type of courses available, especially in tech fields.

There are two community colleges in Bakersfield: Bakersfield College and Taft College. Both offer benefits like lower tuition, smaller class sizes, and flexibility with schedules.

Bakersfield College has a good reputation for its wide variety of programs, and the opportunity to transfer to four-year colleges. The student-faculty ratio is around 29:1, which is slightly above average but it still ensures substantial teacher-student interaction. In terms of programs, the college offers a variety of degrees and certificates in various tech fields such as Computer Science, Web Design and Development, Industrial Technology, and Electronics.

On the other hand, Taft College, a smaller institution located about 30 miles from Bakersfield, is best known for its Energy Technology program. Taft College's student-faculty ratio is lower at 16:1, allowing for a more personalized learning experience.

Both of these schools offer great resources for students looking to enter the tech fields, and both strive to prepare students for four-year colleges or direct entries into their desired workforce. Comparatively, the best choice would depend on the specific courses you are interested in and the learning environment you are comfortable with.
