Could someone help me understand Macalester College majors?

I've been thinking about Macalester College and its major offerings. I'm not entirely sure which majors they're strong in. Would appreciate if anyone has details on the most popular or unique programs!

Certainly! Macalester College, a private liberal arts college located in Saint Paul, Minnesota, offers a diverse range of programs. While it's a liberal arts college, the range of majors extends beyond just the humanities, so there is something for every kind of student.

One of the most popular majors at Macalester is Political Science and Government. The program stands out because of its emphasis on internationalism and multiculturalism – two of the college's primary values.

Economics is also a notable program at Macalester. The students interested in this major have the opportunity to learn from professors who bring a range of professional experiences, and also from diverse international perspectives since Macalester is known to have a high rate of international student attendance.

Unique to Macalester is their Geography major. In fact, they're one of the few liberal arts colleges in the United States that offer a standalone Geography department. The program is quite interdisciplinary, offering opportunities to integrate natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities when studying spatial relationships and change.

As for STEM fields, Macalester has strong programs in neuroscience and environmental science and offers a combined major in Computer Science and Mathematics, which is rather distinctive.

That said, you need to choose a major not just based on popularity or uniqueness, but primarily on your genuine interests and career aspirations. Review the whole list of their offerings on the Macalester website, and try to shadow some classes or speak with professors and current students if you can. What’s most important is finding a school and program that aligns with your academic goals and personal growth areas. Good luck exploring!
