What are your thoughts on Appalachian State University?

I'm considering Appalachian State for my undergrad studies but have only just started looking into it. Can anyone share insights on the campus vibe, academics, and student life there? Would love to hear from current students or alums!

Sure, I'd love to share some insights into Appalachian State University. The first thing to note is the location - situated in the mountain town of Boone, North Carolina, it affords students a unique and enriching environment quite different from the urban or suburban college experience. The campus itself is beautiful with a friendly, outdoorsy atmosphere.

In terms of academics, Appalachian State offers a variety of majors with a strong emphasis on undergraduate research and experiential learning. Some of the popular programs include Business, Visual and Performing Arts, Communications, and Health Professions. The classes are said to be challenging, but many students appreciate the supportive and engaging faculty, and smaller class sizes provide more opportunities for one-on-one time with professors.

Student life is also quite rich with more than 400 student organizations, covering everything from academic clubs to recreational sports. Outdoor activities are particularly popular given the location - you'll find students hiking, kayaking, and skiing throughout the year!

However, keep in mind that the location can also have its challenges. While Boone has its own charm and community feel, it is a small town and can feel limited if you're after a bustling city life. But if you enjoy nature and prefer a more laid-back environment, Appalachian State could indeed be a great fit.

Of course, it’s important to visit (if possible), as this will give you the best feel for the school. Reach out to their admissions office, and they can often put you in touch with a current student or alum to answer any more specific questions you might have. Always remember, each person's college experience can be unique, so gathering multiple perspectives can be beneficial.
