What is the student population like at Northern Arizona University?

How many students attend Northern Arizona University, and what's the general vibe on campus like? Is it bustling with activity or more laid-back? I'm trying to get a sense of what day-to-day life might feel like there.

Northern Arizona University (NAU) is a fairly large-sized institution with around 31,000 students enrolled, of which approximately 22,000 are undergraduate students. Around half of NAU students live on the Flagstaff campus, creating a vibrant and immersive campus community.

In terms of campus lifestyle, NAU has a nice blend of an active and relaxed atmosphere. Historically, the campus is known for outdoor-oriented students who appreciate the natural beauty of Flagstaff, given its close proximity to landmarks such as the Grand Canyon. So, you'll find many students hiking, biking, skiing, and appreciating the beautiful landscape around them.

Academically, students take learning very seriously at NAU, and there's a strong sense of community and support among students and faculty. The environment is collaborative rather than cutthroat. The university also offers more than 400 clubs and organizations, which means there are lots of activities and events happening, keeping the campus abuzz.

While the school does have a "laid-back" vibe due to its location and love for outdoor activities, it's important to note that this doesn't equate to a lack of ambition or drive among students. The vibe is more about balancing academics with a rich social life and personal enjoyment.

Like all universities, the environment can vary depending on the specific department, program, or living community. And, of course, the "vibe" of a campus can be quite subjective, so visiting the campus, either virtually or in person, is always a good idea to really get a sense of day-to-day life.
