What's it like applying to Pace College in New York?

I'm a high school junior considering applying to Pace University in New York for college. I've heard it's got a pretty dynamic admissions process. Can anyone share their experiences or give some tips on what to expect?

Definitely! Pace University has its unique aspects when it comes to the admissions process.

Firstly, Pace accepts the Common Application, meaning you'll be able to apply to multiple colleges using the same general application information, which can be a tremendous time-saver. The Pace-specific portion of the Common Application will likely include questions about why you are interested in Pace and your intended major.

In terms of academics, Pace will look mainly at your high school transcript. This includes your GPA and the rigor of your classes. They’re looking for a strong academic record with a challenging course load, especially in the junior and senior years.

You'd be glad to know that Pace has adopted a flexible testing policy. You can decide whether to submit SAT or ACT scores as part of your application. If you decide to submit scores, self-reported scores are also acceptable initially, and you would only need to send official scores if you're accepted and decide to attend Pace.

In terms of the personal essay, Pace values thoughtful and well-written essays. It's suggested to focus on experiences that have shaped you or the passions and interests that drive you. Remember, it's not the topic but what you convey about yourself through the essay that matters. Avoid cliche topics and make sure your unique voice shines through!

Extracurricular involvement is also essential. Whether you were a member of a club, participated in a sport, or engaged in community service, your extenuating activities help portray who you are beyond just academics.

Lastly, Pace offers optional interviews, which can provide an excellent opportunity to express your interest in the university and ask any questions you may have about the school. While optional, it can be a great way for the admissions committee to get to know you personally. Pace also offers auditions or portfolio reviews for students applying to specific programs so be sure to check if this applies to you!

The universal advice is to start the application process early. It is better not to rush and take time to present your best self to the admissions committee. Best of luck!
