Thoughts on Appalachian State University?

Appalachian State University, located in the beautiful small town of Boone, North Carolina, is known for its tight-knit community and small class sizes. Many students report enjoying the direct access to professors and the continued emphasis on undergraduate education. In terms of its "vibe," it has a friendly and inclusive environment with a strong sense of school spirit and pride in their Mountaineers sports teams.

The most popular majors at App State include Business, specifically Management and Marketing, Education, Health Professions, Visual and Performing Arts, and Social Sciences. The university has a strong emphasis on sustainability and outdoor sports, given its location in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Outdoor clubs and activities such as hiking, biking, and climbing are incredibly popular.

Extracurricular involvement is very encouraged at App State, with over 400 clubs and student organizations in a variety of interest areas. These range from academic clubs related to majors, outdoor adventure clubs, service clubs, Greek life, and cultural and diversity focused organizations.

One unique feature of App State is its Outdoor Programs, which encompasses the Outdoor Club, an equipment rental and supply shop, and a broad range of organized outdoor trips. This is a huge part of the App State experience for outdoor-loving students.

One important consideration is that while Boone is an amazing college town with a lot to offer, it is a bit removed from major city areas. For some students, this is part of the appeal, while others may find it somewhat isolated. However, the campus still offers a range of activities, events, and amenities, so students often don't feel the need to venture far.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a university with a friendly and engaged community, a strong focus on undergraduate education, and a vibrant outdoor culture, Appalachian State would definitely be a strong contender in your college search.
