I'm thinking about attending Portland Community College, but I'm still unsure about what campus life is like. Does anyone know what student involvement there is beyond academics? Are there any clubs or organizations that are especially popular?
As a large community college system, Portland Community College (PCC) offers a vibrant student life experience catered to a diverse range of students. Beyond pure academics, there is ample opportunity to get involved and connect with fellow students.
There's a significant number of clubs and organizations at PCC, encompassing interests from academics and career pathways to hobbies, cultures, and social issues. Some clubs that have been popular amongst students in the past include the Business Club, Anime Club, Environmental Club, and various cultural clubs that celebrate and support students from diverse backgrounds.
PCC campuses often hold various events as well, like speaker series, workshops, festivals, and job fairs, providing students with numerous processes to learn and meet other students and staff.
In addition to this, the college encourages physical well-being and camaraderie through intramural sports. Students can participate in various sports-based activities and make the most out of on-campus recreational facilities.
However, remember that community college life might be different from a traditional four-year college experience. There's typically less of a "campus life" feel because there are many part-time students, older students, or those with jobs or families who may not involve themselves as much externally. It doesn't mean you cannot have a vibrant and engaging social life, but you might need to be proactive and seek out these opportunities.
Make sure to check out PCC's Office of Student Life to get a sense of what opportunities are currently available and to find resources on how to become more engaged on campus.
