What are some of the best universities in Pennsylvania?

I'm considering applying to some colleges in Pennsylvania, but there are so many! Can anyone recommend some of the top universities in the state? I'm interested in both big universities and smaller liberal arts colleges.

Pennsylvania is home to a wide range of top-notch educational institutions, both large research universities and small liberal arts colleges. Just to name a few:

1. University of Pennsylvania: Known as an Ivy League university with strong programs across all disciplines, including business, engineering, and liberal arts.

2. Carnegie Mellon University: Renowned for its STEM programs, particularly in Computer Science and Engineering.

3. Pennsylvania State University: A large public research university with a variety of strong programs.

4. Lehigh University: Known for its Engineering and Business programs, plus a tight-knit community.

Moving to smaller liberal arts colleges, the state has quite a few that are nationally recognized:

1. Swarthmore College: Known for its rigorous liberal arts curriculum and vibrant intellectual community.

2. Haverford College: Offers a close-knit community and strong programs in the humanities and sciences.

3. Bryn Mawr College: A women's college with renowned programs in the humanities and social sciences.

4. Dickinson College: Known for its strong programs in international studies and environmental science.

5. Franklin & Marshall College: Recognized for its strong pre-professional programs and commitment to undergraduate research.

Remember, choosing a university or college is a personal decision that should take into account not just rankings, but also factors like size, location, available programs, campus culture, and financial aid opportunities. It's a good idea to visit campuses if you can, and talk to current students or alumni about their experiences.
