How competitive is admission to Oklahoma State University?

I'm considering Oklahoma State University but want to know more about their admissions process. Is it super competitive? What's their acceptance rate, and do they have any specific requirements I should be aware of?

Oklahoma State University (OSU) is a public research institution known to be moderately competitive. The acceptance rate at OSU tends to hover around 70%, making it accessible to many students who meet the necessary application criteria.

In terms of specific requirements, OSU takes into account the GPA, class rank, and SAT/ACT scores. For the incoming class of 2024, for instance, the middle 50% ACT scores ranged from 20 to 27, while SAT scores ranged from 1020 to 1230. It should be emphasized that these are averages, and admission is not solely determined by these factors.

As of the 2024-2025 application cycle, submitting standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) isn't mandatory at OSU, but can be submitted to help showcase your academic skills and potential. Keep in mind that while test scores can certainly boost your application, they are not the single deciding factor. The university also takes into account academic achievements, leadership roles, extracurricular activities, and other factors that demonstrate a student’s potential both in and out of the classroom.

As for coursework, OSU requires four units of English (Grammar, Composition, and Literature), three units of Lab Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or any lab science certified by the school district; General Science with or without lab may not be used to meet this requirement), three units of Mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Math Analysis, Calculus, Advanced Placement Statistics), three units of History and Citizenship Skills (Must include 1 unit of American History and 2 additional units from the subjects of History, Economics, Geography, Government, Civics and/or Non-Western Culture), and two units of additional coursework (which could be foreign language, computer programming).

Remember that these are the minimum academic requirements, and more competitive applicants generally exceed them in terms of coursework, GPA, or class ranking. Bear in mind to tailor your college application to show your strengths, whether academic or otherwise, ensuring you highlight your passions, drive, and commitment. Good luck!
