Considering PSU Erie campus for college

I'm interested in Penn State's Erie campus and would love to know what makes it unique. How does its academic reputation compare to the main campus, and what about campus life and student culture there?

Penn State Erie, known as the Behrend College, is among the larger and more dynamic campuses in the Penn State system. While it has the resources and recognition of the larger Penn State name, it also champions its unique, close-knit community atmosphere.

Academically, Behrend College offers over 40 bachelor's degrees, some of which are unique to this campus, like the Digital Media, Arts, and Technology program, and the Plastics Engineering Technology program. The faculty-to-student ratio is about 1:16, presenting opportunities for more personalized attention compared to the main campus. Students at the Erie campus have the benefits of a smaller learning environment while earning a degree that carries the weight and recognition of Penn State University.

While its academic reputation may not be quite as globally recognized as the main campus (University Park), the education quality and degree value are high. You'll still receive a robust Penn State education and the degree awarded at graduation is the same as that offered at the main campus.

Regarding campus life, being a smaller campus leads to a close-knit community where it's easier to get to know students across different years and majors. A range of student clubs and organizations are active on the Erie campus, offering extracurricular opportunities that cater to various interests, and ample social events and activities are available to students.

There are also plenty of on-campus housing options available, and a significant percentage of students live on campus, which further deepens the community atmosphere. Erie, PA, provides a scenic backdrop with an abundance of outdoor activities, like hiking, skiing, and access to the lake. It's a vibrant, hands-on community that encourages students to get involved.

As you consider the Erie campus, I'd recommend reaching out to current students or alumni who can share firsthand experiences of life there. The variety of unique programs, smaller class sizes, and active campus life could make it an excellent fit depending on your preferences and academic goals.
