Public Health Schools: What Are Some Good Ones?

I'm thinking about majoring in public health and was wondering if anyone has recommendations for strong public health schools? How do these programs compare in terms of coursework and opportunities?

There are a number of strong programs for public health at the undergraduate level, spanning coast to coast!

Starting off with Johns Hopkins University, which has an exceptional Public Health Studies major that is housed in the world-renowned Bloomberg School of Public Health. The coursework is interdisciplinary and combines natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Students also benefit from unique research and internship opportunities due to the school's close ties with the medical institution.

The University of California at Berkeley also has a robust public health program. Known for its interdisciplinary approach, it's ideal for students who desire a solid foundation in the principles of public health, combined with a specialty area.

If you're interested in incorporating global health into your studies, check out Emory University's Global Health, Culture, and Society minor. The program combines the study of public health methods with a focus on global health issues from a sociocultural perspective.

Finally, consider the University of Michigan's Public Health major. Ranked among the best in the nation, the curriculum covers a range of issues, including environmental health science, health behavior, health management and policy.

When comparing these schools, consider factors such as the specific focus or strengths of the program (like global health or policy, etc), access to research and internship opportunities, location (proximity to public health organizations could be a consideration), and the resources or facilities at each institution.

Remember, the 'best' program is often subjective and greatly depends on your personal goals and what you hope to gain from your studies. As such, these recommendations would be a great starting point for a wider list that also includes what you personally value in a public health program.
