What full-time jobs are available for high school grads in Boston?

I'm graduating soon and trying to find a full-time job in Boston. I just have my high school diploma. Does anyone know of entry-level positions or companies that hire recent grads?

Sure, there are numerous full-time jobs that high school graduates can take on in Boston. The city has a diverse range of sectors providing employment opportunities, be it in retail, hospitality, customer service, administration, or even tech.

Retail: Many entry-level positions at grocery stores, shopping centers, and local boutiques are available. For instance, positions like cashier, stock associate, or customer service representative typically require no previous experience.

Hospitality: Jobs in the hospitality sector—such as roles in hotels, restaurants, and cafes—often have various entry-level positions available. Roles could range from a server, or barista, to hotel concierge or housekeeping.

Customer Service: Call centers and customer service roles, particularly within the city's thriving tech scene could be an excellent place to start. You’d be assisting customers over the phone or online chats. This could also include online technical assistance.

Administrative: Administrative or clerical jobs at various businesses are another good option. Receptionist positions, data entry, or office administration may require little to no prior experience.

Lastly, don’t forget about apprenticeships. There are trade unions and companies across industries like construction, manufacturing, and tech, offering apprenticeships that combine work experience with training. These programs can lead to full-time, well-paying jobs and even offer paths to further studies down the line.

Keep in mind, that while these jobs might not require anything beyond a high school diploma, having any additional skills or certifications could give you an edge. For instance, proficiency in another language, computer literacy, or even a CPR certification could make you more marketable, depending on the job. Be sure to highlight those in your applications and interviews. Also, your network can be very beneficial in job searching, so don’t forget to spread the word amongst your friends, family, and acquaintances about your job hunt. Best of luck!
