What are some schools that are free to apply to?

I'm a high school junior trying to save some money on college applications. Can anyone recommend some schools that don't charge application fees? I'd love to know how common this is and which schools might be a good fit.

Of course, there are actually quite a few colleges that don't charge application fees, making them ideal to consider if you're trying to keep costs down during the application process.

Several colleges that do not charge application fees include Carleton College, Tulane University, Kenyon College, and Loyola University Chicago. These are all highly respected institutions with programs in a variety of fields.

Additionally, there are entire systems that have free applications too, such as the United States military academies (West Point, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Coast Guard Academy), which are free to apply to but require a congressional nomination and commitment to serve after graduation.

Although it's great to save money, do keep in mind that while no fee might be attractive, you should also consider factors like the fit of the school, academic programs, location, student life, and post-graduation opportunities while creating your college list.

Unfortunately, most universities still do charge an application fee, and fee-free colleges form a relatively small part of all higher education institutions. However, if the colleges you're interested in do charge a fee and the cost will be a burden, it could be worth looking into application fee waivers, which are offered by many colleges and organizations like the College Board, if you meet certain eligibility requirements based on financial need.

Regardless, don't limit your options solely due to the application fee, it's important to find colleges that will be a good fit for your individual needs and goals. Good luck with your applications!
