How competitive are South Carolina State University's admissions?

I'm considering applying to SC State and am curious about how tough it is to get in. Does anyone know about their admissions rate or the type of students they typically accept?

South Carolina State University, often abbreviated as SCSU, has a rather inclusive admission policy, with a high acceptance rate compared to other universities. The acceptance rate has consistently been above 84% in recent years. This means a large proportion of those who apply are granted admission.

When it comes to student profiles, SCSU is known to be less stringent about stellar test scores or perfect GPAs, compared to more competitive institutions. However, like many colleges and universities, the institution still values students who have shown a strong commitment to their academics. The typical GPA for incoming students is between 2.4 and 3.16 on a 4.0 scale.

As for SAT/ACT scores, they are also considered in the admissions process. The middle 50% of accepted students usually have SAT scores between 890 and 1170. For the ACT, the middle 50% ranges between 12 and 17. However, these scores serve as benchmarks, not as cut-offs, meaning that students with lower scores still have the chance of gaining admission based on the overall strength of their application, including extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and personal essays.

As always, remember that every applicant is evaluated holistically, so make sure your application highlights your strengths and dedication to pursuing higher education.
