What does UD's admissions process look like?

I'm planning to apply to the University of Delaware and trying to figure out if they have any specific admissions requirements. Are there things like essays or interviews involved? Also, what are the average stats for admitted students?

The University of Delaware, often referred to as UD operates on a rolling admissions basis, which means they review applications as they come in and continue to do so until they have filled all the spaces in the freshman class. However, they do have a priority deadline of January 15 that you should aim to meet.

Like most universities, the application process requires a high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores, although they are test-optional for the 2024-2025 admissions cycle. Depending on your intended major, the University may recommend but not require certain high school courses. Make sure you check these requirements as they can vary by program. For example, business majors are recommended to have at least four years of English, four years of math (including precalculus or higher), three years of social science, two years of a foreign language, and two years of laboratory science.

In terms of essays, UD requires a personal statement as part of their application. The personal essay prompts change slightly each year, but they generally ask for you to discuss your reasons for choosing your intended major and what you hope to gain from it. They also monitor demonstrated interest, so try to include aspects that show your knowledge and interest in the school in your essay or any extended interactions.

As for average stats, the middle 50% GPA for admitted students is usually around 3.4 to 4.0. On the SAT, the mid-50% ranges from 1160 to 1350. For the ACT, it generally is between 25 and 30. Remember, these are only averages, and having scores within or above these ranges does not guarantee admission.

UD does not typically conduct interviews as part of its standard application process, although they do offer optional "Virtual Blue Hen Chats" where you can talk informally with an admissions counselor or a current student to ask questions and learn more about the school.

Remember, what truly matters is your fit for the school and how well you can convey this in your application. So, beyond focusing on the average stats and technical requirements, spend time understanding the culture and values of UD, and reflect these in your application essays.
