Loyola University New Orleans - worth it?

I'm considering Loyola University New Orleans, but I'm not sure what it's really like. How's the campus vibe and academic atmosphere? Would you recommend it? Any pros or cons I should know as a potential student?

Loyola University New Orleans is certainly an institution known for its distinctive strengths. The university offers a strong liberal arts foundation, combined with professional programs in fields such as business and law. They are especially known for their music and arts programs, which consistently ranks among the top in the nation.

As for college life, Loyola offers a vibrant scene with over 100 student organizations, plenty of events and activities, and robust service learning opportunities. The campus is known for its welcoming and inclusive environment, which could be a big plus if you value a close-knit community. With a smaller student population as compared to larger state schools, professors are often able to dedicate more time and resources to individual students.

The campus is located in a residential area of Uptown New Orleans, which means you'll get to enjoy the historic charm of the neighborhood and the unique culture of the city. New Orleans is a city known for its music and food scene, both of which are integral to the Loyola New Orleans student experience.

However, there are a few things to consider. While the small size provides an intimate learning environment, it may limit the variety and depth of course offerings, especially for those interested in less common majors. Additionally, if you're not a fan of a city-based campus, you may find the urban setting a bit overwhelming. Also, keep in mind that while the university offers some financial aid, the effectiveness of aid may vary. It's always a good idea to use their net price calculator to estimate your costs before making a decision.

In the end, whether Loyola University New Orleans is 'worth it' or not greatly depends on what you’re looking for in terms of campus culture, academic interests, financial feasibility, and personal preferences. Conducting further research, possibly engaging with current students or alumni, and ideally visiting the campus, if possible, might provide you with a clearer vision.
