What high-paying jobs can I get with just a high school diploma?

I'm considering finishing up with just a high school diploma and diving straight into the workforce. Are there any high-paying job options available that don't require a college degree? I'd love some insight into good career options.

Certainly, there are several well-paying jobs available to you with just a high school diploma, although keep in mind that some of these positions may require specialized training or experience.

1. Commercial Pilot: This job doesn't require a college degree, but it does require commercial pilot's license from the FAA, along with hundreds of hours of flight experience. The median annual wage is quite competitive.

2. Power Plant Operators: These individuals control the systems that generate and distribute electric power. This job requires extensive on-the-job training.

3. Elevator Installers and Repairers: They install, fix, and maintain elevators, escalators, moving walkways, and other lifts. This role involves an apprenticeship but doesn't need a college degree.

4. Transportation, Storage, and Distribution Managers: They plan, direct, and coordinate transportation, storage, or distribution activities. While some employers prefer candidates with a bachelor's degree, significant work experience in logistics or a related field can suffice.

5. Air Traffic Controllers: They coordinate the movement of aircraft to maintain safe distances between them. Training for this job is provided by the FAA's Air Traffic Collegiate Training Initiative, and includes an exam and a pre-employment processing stage.

Remember, even if these jobs don't require a degree, they often involve some sort of training, certification, or work experience. It's also worth mentioning that working straight after high school can give you valuable professional and life skills that your peers might not develop until after college. However, in the long-term, individuals with a college degree tend to earn more over their lifetime compared to those with just a high school diploma. You'll have to weigh your personal circumstances, your professional goals, and your interests before making a decision.

Finally, don’t underestimate trades and vocational training, such as electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians. These professions can earn a solid income and are expected to remain in demand.
