Good paying jobs for high schoolers before graduation?

I'm still in high school, but I've been thinking about jobs I can do now that pay well. What are some opportunities for students trying to save money or gain experience?

First, congratulations on taking the initiative to seek employment while still in high school. There are quite a few jobs that high school students can pursue that pay decently and could provide valuable work experiences simultaneously.

1. Tutoring: It can be a lucrative part-time job, especially if you excel in a particular subject. You can offer your services to other high school students or younger kids. This job not only pays well per hour but also helps cement your own understanding of subjects.

2. Lifeguard: For those who are skilled swimmers and have completed a Red Cross-certified program, lifeguarding can be a great option. The hourly rate is often significantly higher than minimum wage and it offers the chance to develop strong communication and crisis management skills.

3. Grocery Store Employee: Working at a local grocery store can help you develop general skills such as time management, customer service, and teamwork. Some grocery stores, like Trader Joe's, are known for paying above minimum wage.

4. Food Service: Jobs at cafes, ice cream shops, or fast-food restaurants are often available to high schoolers. Many fast-food chains, like In-n-Out, are known for offering higher than average wages for entry-level positions.

5. Pet Sitting or Dog Walking: If you’re an animal lover, pet sitting or dog walking can be an enjoyable way to earn money. Sites like Rover can connect you with pet owners in your area.

6. Retail: Work in clothing stores or other retail outlets can offer decent pay and potential employee discounts. Furthermore, these jobs can help you build communication and sales skills.

7. Remote Work: There are plenty of virtual work opportunities available these days. They range from graphic design and content writing to customer service and data entry. Websites such as Upwork or Fiverr can help you find such work.

Remember, while earning money is important, opting for internships or volunteer experiences in fields you are interested in studying further can also be a great investment for your future career.
